Missed the Introduction Days?
Missed the Introduction Days? Start Here
Did you miss our Introduction Days or arrive in Giessen after the start of the semester? Don't worry – you can still get started with your studies.
This page will help you take the most important first steps, access your courses and find the information you need.
How do I activate my JLU account?
Your JLU account gives you access to the university's digital services, including Stud.IP, your JLU email account and other important systems. After enrolment, you will receive information on how to activate your account.
What you need to do:
- Check your emails for your account activation information.
- Follow the instructions to activate your JLU account.
- Set up your JLU email account and check it regularly.
Your JLU email address is the university's official communication channel. Important information about courses, examinations and your studies will be sent there.
Where can I find my first-semester study schedule?
Each degree programme has a recommended study schedule showing which core modules you should take in each semester.
What you need to do:
- Visit the Core Module Plans page on our faculty website.
- Select your degree programme.
- Check which core modules are recommended for your first semester.
- Use Stud.IP to find the corresponding courses and their schedules.
Please note that the core module plan shows the recommended distribution of modules across semesters, not your weekly timetable.
How do I register for courses in Stud.IP?
Stud.IP is JLU's learning management system. You use it to register for courses, access learning materials and receive information from your lecturers.
What you need to do:
- Log in to Stud.IP using your JLU account.
- Search for your first-semester modules.
- Register for the corresponding courses.
- Check the course pages for teaching schedules, materials and announcements.
Important: Registering for courses in Stud.IP is not the same as registering for examinations. Examination registration is handled separately.
What if course registration has already closed??
If you were unable to register before the deadline because your enrolment was delayed or you arrived late, you should still try to join your courses.
What you need to do:
- Check whether registration is still possible in Stud.IP.
- If registration has closed, contact the lecturer responsible for the course and explain your situation.
- Ask whether you can still join the course and access the learning materials.
Please note that late registration is not always possible, particularly for courses with limited places or compulsory practical components.
