Requirements, registration, login and first steps

Here we provide information about the technical requirements for using the CRIS as well as the basics for using the CRIS, i.e. how to register and log out (login and logout) and the structure of the pages in the CRIS. We will also show you how to create content in the CRIS.

First steps

You can access the CRIS after registering from the university network or via VPN at https://fis.uni-giessen.de/.

Technical requirements

Please note that the following conditions must be met or are a prerequisite for using CRIS:

  • You have an up-to-date browser.
    CRIS is optimized for Microsoft Edge, Firefox, Google Chrome and Safari.
  • You access it from the university network.
    For access from outside the university network, dial-in via a VPN connection is mandatory.

Registration to create an account in the research information system

In order to log in to the research information system, you need to register yourself here on the website. Please complete this step first, and note the following:

  • You will receive a summary of the information stored during registration in an automatically generated e-mail sent to your address upon successful completion of the registration process.
  • The verification of your data and the activation of your account by a member of the CRIS team takes up to two working days.
  • As soon as you have been activated for the CRIS, you will receive a further notification by e-mail.
  • Now you can log in with your HRZ user name and password at https://fis.uni-giessen.de, enter your publications and complete your personal profile.

For your information: The project plan for the introduction of an identity management system at Justus Liebig University, which is still under construction, provides for the automated creation of accounts in the research information system for researchers at Justus Liebig University at a later date. A direct data link between the identity management system and the research information system will be created at a later date for this purpose.

Registration / Login to the research information system with HRZ account

Before registering in the Research Information System, you must Register yourself.

If you are already registered to use the research information system (see above) and have received a notification that your account has been activated in the research information system, please use this registration form:

Your login name is the username - also called g-identifier or j-identifier - of your HRZ account, which you also use for many other JLU services. The network password associated with the user name is accepted as the password.

Deregistration / logout from the research information system


Please log out of the system by clicking on the small orange arrow in the dark gray action bar in the top right corner next to the text "Scientist: [your name]" and then on "Logout".

Basics for operating the CRIS

Structure of the pages

After logging in, you will be directed to the start page, which is structured as follows:

You will find a search field in the header of the page. This allows you to find content stored in JLU-CRIS that is visible to your role.

To the right of the search field is a bell symbol that lights up when you have received new messages. In between are the help menu and a menu with profile information and settings (recognizable by your role and name).

Information about your person is displayed in the middle grey area of the page, on the right you will find the blue button "Create content".

At the bottom of the page you will find information about the CRIS.

On the left-hand side, you will find a menu that you can use to access all the information you need for your role. Some categories in the menu are divided into sub-items.

Please note that the menu contains the information accessible for your user role: The information about your research and the administrative processes relating to it.

 

 

If you click on a category in the menu on the left-hand side, list views of the available data records will open. You can view or edit these by clicking on the corresponding field in the list view.

Create content

In the top right-hand corner of the browser window, you will find a button with a "+" symbol and the inscription "Create content". Click the button and select the content you want to create from the menu that appears.

Please note: Different user roles can edit and create different data. If the menu does not show you the desired action, you either do not have the corresponding editing rights or you need to change your user role to carry out the action.
