DAAD Scholarships for More Equity and Opportunity
The International Office of JLU awards scholarships for more equity and opportunity within the framework of the DAAD programme STIBET I to international students (in bachelor's, master's or state examination programmes) and to international doctoral candidates at JLU who face special challenges in their studies.
- Possible funding duration: 1 - 6 months
- Scholarship rate: €300 - 450 / month
- Funding start date: October or November 2026
Please note that we have limited scholarship funds available.
International students and doctoral candidates may be supported if they
- are enrolled in bachelor's or master's programmes or state examination studies, or for the purpose of pursuing a doctoral degree,
- are pursuing a degree at JLU (no exchange students, free movers, German language course participants, or Studienkolleg participants),
- face special challenges during their studies, e.g.:
- Disability (degree of disability of more than 50 %)
- Chronic illness
- Refugee background (current refugee status in Germany)
- Single parent with child/children aged 0 - 8 years
- Caring for close relatives in Germany,
- are staying in Germany during the funding period,
- do not receive another scholarship for the same purpose. Furthermore, simultaneous support by the International Office, the Förderverein für unschuldig in Not geratene Studierende e.V. – Solifonds, the Catholic Student Community (KHG) as well as the Protestant Student Community (ESG) is excluded.
The application period for the winter semester 2026/27 starts on Monday, 15 June 2026 and ends on Friday, 31 July 2026.

The following documents are required for your application and must be uploaded via the form:
- a detailed CV
- a report on your social situation (justification of the application with a description of your personal situation and special challenges in your studies; approx. 1 DIN A4 page). This can be written in German or English
- Certificate of enrolment for the winter semester 2026/27
- Corresponding proof of special challenges (e.g. severely disabled person's pass, medical certificate, residence permit, birth certificate of child/children, self-declaration)
- Proof of past financing (last 6 months: January 2026 – June 2026) in the form of bank statements and, if applicable, employment contracts and payslips, as well as future financing (next 6 months: July 2026 – December 2026) in the form of an estimate of available financial resources and, if applicable, employment contracts
Once the application deadline has passed, your documents will be reviewed in detail. If your application is complete and meets the formal requirements , we will invite you to a personal interview, during which you will have the opportunity to explain the reasons for your application in more detail. The interviews will take place between 7 and 18 September . You will receive further details by email.
The responsible scholarship commission led by a representative of the university executive board decides on the scholarship awards.
