Alumni meeting at UHOH in Stuttgart

Back to Stuttgart? In July, the 50 years celebration of the Institute of Food Chemistry at the University of Hohenheim (UHOH) was gathering together most alumnis. For 8 years, I taught in the Food Chemistry courses at UHOH (2003-2011). It was a pleasure to meet again.

Now two alumnis in the image are full professors at JLU Giessen (Chair of Food Chemistry and Chair of Food Science)! And Professor emeritus Dr. Wolfgang Schwack, Head and Director of the Food Chemistry Institute at UHOH for 22 years, also has joined the group of Food Science at JLU Gießen since October 2017. WELCOME!

HPTLC 2017

At HPTLC 2017 in Berlin, about 210 participants from ca. 30 nations discussed the latest progress in HPTLC.

Poster presentation of the vanilla team: Erasmus students Sandrine Tomeba, Alice Sighicelli and Martina Busso from Italy! They made it perfectly!

Congratulations to the speakers of our group - they did it excellent! It was great to see these outstanding young researchers. Among them, Dimitri Fichou (middle) was honored by the Young Researcher Award on his presentation on Office Chromatography!

Thanks to the Award Committee! Prizes for posters P-3 and P-18 encourage us to go on, as both developments were reached without the least funding!

First Poster Prize

At the jubilee XXXXth Symposium for ‘Chromatographic methods of investigating the organic compounds’ in Szczyrk in Poland from 23. to 26. May 2017 our poster "Office Chromatography - do it yourself!" was awarded with the First Poster Prize! We are grateful for this early recognition given for this instrumental open-source project termed Office Chromatography.

Award for research in direct bioautography

At the 72. Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Lebensmittel-, Veterinär- und Agrarwesen (ALVA) Meeting in Waldkirchen in Austria on the 22. May 2017 Dr. Ines Klingelhöfer got the ALVA-Forschungspreis 2017 awarded for her cummulative dissertation based on our papers. We thank the Award Selection Committee for this honor!

Eager to learn more about HPTLC...

Working in a group with mostly 5-7 nationalities of highly motivated researcher is exciting, as your perspective is expanded. Currently, Italy dominates the group besides Iran, Hungary, Belgium, Egypt, France....

A great pleasure to host Dr. Ágnes Móricz from the Plant Protection Institute, Centre for Agricultural Research, Hungarian Academy of Sciences!

Guests on earth

We have lost a highly respected scientist in the field of planar chromatography! He was a very dedicated scientist in the field of planar overpressure separations. We met for the first time during a symposium in 1994 and few times later. It was always a pleasure to meet him. Conversations with him were always very cordial. We will keep his memory!

Chinese delegation

For the second time, a delegation of the Academy of Sciences and of the Academy of Testing and Analysis of Guizhou visited our lab to get insight into bioprofiling and food analysis. They also got information on the German and European food safety system.

Open-source-based 3D printing of thin silica gel layers

Another asset to be integrated into the Office Chromatography concept: A self-mounted, open-source Prusa i3 printer was modified with a self-designed slurry doser for 3D printing of layers. The proof-of-principle was successfully demonstrated for 3D printing of thin silica gel layers. All modifications of the device and software were released open-source to encourage re-use and improvements and to stimulate the users to contribute to this technology. Interested? More details are available in a recent paper in Analytical Chemistry.
On this paper was already reported from the point of view of chemistry in the E-magazine separationsNOW and in the printer community or or or Of course, also in the Chinese web.... ok, also in the Italian web.
