Orientation Days for Master's Students during the Winter Semester 2025/26
Dear Master's students, welcome to your new study programme at Justus Liebig University Giessen! We are delighted that you have decided to study a Master's programme at JLU. To ensure a successful start to your studies, we would like to invite you to our student orientation days, where you will receive all the important information you need to start your Master's degree programme and have the opportunity to get to know other first-year students in your degree programmes, exchange ideas and make contacts.
The Orientation Days for Master's Students take place on 9 and 10 October 2025.
You will first be welcomed at an opening event (see ‘Dates’) before spending the remaining days in small groups, where you will be accompanied by student mentors – students from higher semesters of your degree programme. Please be sure to attend the opening events, as this is where the groups for the rest of the week are formed. It is not necessary to register in advance. Your Master's degree programme will then start at the beginning of the lecture period on 13 October 2025.We wish you a great start to your studies and a successful start to your Master's programme!

Further Information
Welcoming Ceremony and Interdisciplinary Information
After you have been welcomed to Justus Liebig University Giessen, you will be assigned student mentors from your Master's programme who will support you in getting started. You will receive information about the study and examination administration systems and the module application. The most important organisational matters, such as how to use the library, will be explained and individual questions will also be answered. International students will also be made aware of the
special services offered by the International Students Department
.
So if possible, reserve the two days of the event for your introduction to studying at JLU. The event not only provides you with all important information, but also offers the opportunity to establish the first new contacts in your Master's programme.
As you will also receive an introduction to the electronic systems used at JLU, we recommend that you bring a laptop with you if possible. However, this is not compulsory. Of course, you can also attend without one and receive all the information you need.
ㅤ
Subject-specific Information Events
In subject-specific information events, you will be given the opportunity to
- gain an insight into the study programme and specific module content,
- receive advice on timetabling and course selection,
- discuss your individual study-related questions with university lecturers.
We therefore recommend that you take part in the introductory study events.
- Important Notes
-
Leave of absence / certificate for the employer
Service personnel and employed persons who need to be released from work for the period of the study introduction can request a certificate from the Central Student Advisory Service (ZSB) by 12 September 2025 , in which the need to participate in the study introduction is emphasised and the employer or employer is asked for exemption. When requesting the certificate in writing, please state your first and last name, the subject you are studying and your address. We will then send you the certificate as a PDF by e-mail.
Request your certificate via Sekretariat.ZSB .
