Orientation Weeks during the Winter Semester 2026/27
28 Sep–2 Oct and 5–9 Oct 2026
Dear first-semester students,Welcome to JLU! We cordially invite you to the Student Orientation Week for undergraduate degree programmes (Bachelor's, teaching degree, state examination), where you will receive all the important information you need to start your studies, and have the opportunity to meet other first-year students.
Depending on your degree programme, your orientation week will take place in either the first week (28 September–2 October 2026) or the second week (5–9 October 2026). You can find out which week applies to your degree programme in the overview of the opening events below.
The week begins with the opening event for your degree programme. Here, small groups will be formed, and you will spend the rest of the week together. It is therefore essential that you attend the opening event; no registration is required.
Accompanied by student mentors, you will explore the university with your group and become familiar with everyday student life. The lecture term then begins on 12 October 2026.
We wish you a great first week and a wonderful start at JLU!

Further Information
The orientation week is tailored to your specific degree programme. It begins with an opening event for all first-year students on your programme. It is essential that you attend, as this is where the small groups for the rest of the week will be formed.
In these groups, you will be supported by mentors – students from higher years on your programme. The programme for the week will be communicated to you within the group and agreed upon together.
Be sure to reserve time for the entire week from morning until late afternoon, including on the very first day. Many groups also meet in the evenings. So please keep the week as free as possible.
In your small groups, you will have the opportunity, amongst other things, to
- familiarise yourself with the structure and regulations of your degree programme,
- make contact with your fellow students,
- get help with timetable planning and course registration,
- familiarise yourself with JLU’s digital platforms,
- discuss study- and career-related questions with lecturers,
- and get to know the university as an institution, including the student union.
