Avoiding plagiarism and fraud during scientific writing
Before you start working on your thesis please inform yourself about how to use sources and how to cite properly.
On the JLU website (German language) you will find information on academic work, tips on how to avoid plagiarism and fraud, and sanctions applicable at JLU in the event of plagiarism and fraud during studies.

Submission of the written thesis
The thesis must be submitted on time in electronically searchable format (PDF) via email to the Examination Office (studies) and to both examiners, and, if applicable, to the chair’s office. The signed declaration of authorship must be attached.
The timely receipt of the email is decisive for meeting the deadline. The submission date will be recorded by the Examination Office in FlexNow. If the written part is not submitted on time, it will be considered graded as "insufficient."
If the file size exceeds the maximum limit for email, the file should be made available to the Examination Office and both examiners via the Next.Hessenbox. The link to the Next.Hessenbox must be communicated by email within the deadline.
By submitting the thesis, the candidate confirms that it was written independently, that all sources and aids used are indicated, and that the work may be checked using anti-plagiarism software. All passages taken verbatim or in essence from publications or other sources must be individually marked as such. Furthermore, it must be declared that the thesis has not been used as an examination submission in any other study program.
Assessment
The assessment must be made no later than six weeks after submission. The grade of the written part is the arithmetic mean of both assessments.
- If the written part was graded at least sufficient, the main results of the work must be presented in a colloquium.
>> Oral Part (Colloquium) - If the written part is graded as ‘insufficient’, it can be revised within three months or a second thesis can be written on a different topic.
