Partial Scholarships for International Students at JLU in the Closing Phase of Their Degree
On this website, you will find all relevant information regarding the application and selection criteria for JLU's graduation scholarships for international students.
For the final phase of studies, the International Office awards partial scholarships to international students at JLU (in bachelor's, master's or state examination programmes).
The graduation scholarships are financed by the DAAD and the Federal State of Hessen.
- Possible funding period: 3-6 months
- Scholarship rate: 300-450 € per month
- Start of funding: October or November 2026
The responsible Scholarship Commission decides on the application and, in the case of funding , on the amount and period.
Please note that we currently have limited scholarship funds available.
International students may be supported if they
- are enrolled in bachelor's and master's programmes or state examination programmes
- are pursuing a degree at JLU (no exchange students, free movers, German language course participants, or Studienkolleg participants),
- are in the final phase of their studies ( maximum 12 months before graduation ) and have gained at least half of the required achievements in the respective degree programme (e.g. at least 90 credits in the bachelor, at least 60 credits in the master),
- are staying in Germany during the funding period,
- do not receive another scholarship for the same purpose. Furthermore, simultaneous support by the International Office, the Förderverein für unschuldig in Not geratene Studierende e.V. – Solifonds, the Catholic Student Community (KHG) as well as the Protestant Student Community (ESG) is excluded.
The application period for the winter semester 2026/27 starts on Monday, 15 June 2026 and ends on Friday, 31 July 2026.
Step 1: Online application for a graduation scholarship
International students can apply for a graduation scholarship online on our website within the deadline .
To do so, first complete the web form provided and upload the following documents directly to the website:
- A detailed curriculum vitae
- A report on your social situation (justification of your application, stating what you have to do in order to graduate and when you intend to complete your studies; ca. 1 DIN A4 page). This can be written in either German or English.
- Enrolment certificate (Studienbescheinigung) for the winter semester 2026/27
- Proof of past financing (last 6 months: January 2026 – June 2026) in the form of bank statements and, if applicable, employment contracts and payslips, as well as future financing (next 6 months: July 2026 – December 2026) in the form of an estimate of available financial resources and, if applicable, employment contracts
- Proof of previous academic achievements in the form of a current transcript of records / FlexNow printout, assignation of practical year or similar
Please make sure to submit complete documents.
You also need a total of two qualified reviews from two different professors or teaching postdocs at JLU.

Step 2: Personal interview
Once the application deadline has passed, your documents will be reviewed in detail. If your application is complete and meets the formal requirements , we will invite you to a personal interview, during which you will have the opportunity to explain the reasons for your application in more detail. The interviews will take place between 7 and 18 September . You will receive further details by email.
Step 3: Scholarship approval or rejection
Afterwards, the scholarship commission decides on the application and, in the case of funding, on the amount and period of funding. Applicants will receive an email from the International Office at the end of October/beginning of November 2026 informing them of their acceptance or rejection.
The responsible scholarship commission led by a representative of the university executive board decides on the scholarship awards.

- Academic achievements
- Social situation / indigence
- Expertise of the professors / postdoctoral researchers
- Reasons for the application set out in the report
- Previous length of studies and time required until successful completion
- If applicable, social / intercultural commitment
- Completeness of the application and compliance with the formal requirements
