Deadlines for exam registrations

An overview of all deadlines and dates for exam registration is published on the Examination Office website. Registration for an examination always refers to the corresponding examination period.

The deadline applies to any exam registration, whether via FlexNow or by form via the Examination Office

Examination periods

In the faculty 09, two examination periods are defined each semester:

  • The first period lasts two weeks and extends from the last lecture week to the first week of the non-lecture period.
  • The second examination period is in the last two weeks before the start of lectures in the following semester

Students can choose between the first or the second examination period. Please note that you must register independently in FlexNow for each examination, including repeat examinations (medical certificate, failed, exam not taken).

Number of attempts

In each module, students have up to three attempts to successfully complete the exam. In the event of illness, students must submit a medical certificate and will then be excused; the attempt will not be counted, and they will still retain three attempts in total. Students are responsible for registering themselves for any repeat examination.

It is also possible to take the exam one year later; however, we strongly recommend attending the module again in order to prepare adequately based on the current module content.

It is not permitted to repeat an exam solely for the purpose of improving a grade. Once a module exam has been successfully completed, further registration for that exam is no longer possible. All successfully completed modules are included in the final transcript of records. Completed modules cannot be replaced by other modules, for example by an additional module in which a higher grade was achieved.

Please note: In all modules, students have up to three attempts to successfully complete the exam. Under the new regulations (since the summer semester 2025), it is now possible to change a profile module after at least one failed attempt. To do so, students must notify the examination office via the functional email address. However, such a change is not permitted for core modules. A definitive failure — meaning three unsuccessful attempts — in a core module results in exmatriculation from the degree programme.
