New funding for the Heart and Lung Research in Gießen

Already in September 2018, the DFG decided on applications of the Excellence Initiative. The Excellence Cluster "Cardio-Pulmonary Institute" (CPI), for which almost 50 million Euros have been applied for, will be funded from January 1, 2019 for seven years - an extension is possible. The Cluster CPI is a joint initiative of the JLU, the Goethe University Frankfurt am Main and the Max Planck Institute for Heart and Lung Research in Bad Nauheim. Since 2006, and thus the beginning of the Excellence Initiative, the JLU has been funding the Heart and Lung Excellence Cluster ECCPS - the predecessor of the now approved CPI. The primary objective is to use this research funding for cardiopulmonary biology and medicine issues to successfully continue the fight against heart and lung disease - the leading cause of death worldwide.
