Recognition of academic achievements
Academic achievements from other institutions can be recognized and counted towards your degree at Faculty 09, provided they are equivalent in content and scope.
On this page, you will find all the information you need about the recognition process.
Application Documents
The following documents have to be submitted to the examination office by email (studies).
- Recognition Form – International Master’s Programs (.xlsx)
Instructions for completing the form are included on the first sheet. - Detailed Module descriptions in German or English language (original documents only; do not submit full module catalogs but only the description of the respective module; no self-created descriptions!). In addition you can submit: scripts of lectures or practical courses.
- an official copy of the achievement record showing the CPs and grades in German or English language
Recognition of prior learning—including the possible assignment to a higher semester—does not guarantee admission to a study program and does not replace a formal application for admission. Please refer to the application guidelines for further information.
Applying for a Higher Semester Entry
Semester Classification Based on Recognized Modules
For every four recognized modules worth 6 ECTS credits each, one semester may be credited.
Deadlines for Submitting Recognition Requests
If you plan to apply for admission to a higher semester, please observe the following deadlines for submitting your recognition request to the Examination Office:
- German academic achievements: at least 4 weeks before the application deadline
- Foreign academic achievements: at least 8 weeks before the application deadline (due to longer processing times)
Meeting these deadlines is essential for timely processing.
Notification and Recognition Letter
Once your request has been processed, you will receive a written notification (recognition letter), which may also include information on higher semester classification.
Placement into a Higher Semester
If you have received credit for one or more semesters, you may be eligible for placement into a higher semester. In this case, please submit the recognition letter to the Student Office or include it with your application.
If the letter is not yet available when you apply, please check whether late submission is permitted.
Please note: The Student Office is solely responsible for decisions regarding placement into a higher semester.
Entry of Recognized Achievements in FlexNow
