Project B 5

Modification of cell-cell- and cell-matrix-communication within bone tissue by new materials

Gap junctions and focal adhesions can be influenced by specific properties of materials. Therefore, investigations on material dependent effects influencing expression of the integrin-subunits av and b1 and of connexin 43 and connexin 45 during differentiation to osteoblasts will be performed. Additionally, differentiation to osteoclasts in samples from healthy and osteoporotic donors will be studied in response to the newly generated materials with special regard to podosomes, to podosomal interactions with different integrin subunits, to CD44 and to cx43-mediated cell communication.
