Project B8

Investigation of bone defects and microcirculation with volume computed tomography and dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging

In subproject B8 it is planned to apply functional imaging methods to investigate the healing processes surrounding bone substitute materials in vivo in animals. To achieve this goal, the results obtained employing murine models will be further clarified by broadening the examinations to large mammals including sheep. In patients with early stages of multiple myeloma, follow-up examinations will be performed until progression into symptomatic disease to investigate to which extent bone defects can be predicted to counteract further local bone destruction using bioactive bone substitute materials.
