Project M2
Calcium phosphate bone cements for local therapy of defects in systemic bone disease.
M2 develops calcium phosphate cements (CPC) for the treatment of osteoporotic bone defects or those caused by multiple myeloma. Based on the results of the 1. funding period, the biodegradability shall be significantly enhanced by composite formation with mesoporous, bioactive glass (MBG) particles. Furthermore, MBG can be loaded with pharmacological agents so that materials with bimodal release kinetics can be developed. Second focus is a functionalised CPC for application in spine (kyphoplasty), which shall be applied together with a biodegradable biopolymer balloon in a minimally invasive fashion.
