Project M4

Establishment of the novel approach ‘in situ tissue engineering’ for bone defect healing

The aim of project M4 is to develop porous bone substitute materials able to enrich mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) and therefore stimulating defect healing. These MSC will be mobilized by application of the CXCR4 antagonist AMD3100 in osteoporotic animals. Biomimetic scaffolds made of mineralized collagen type I with central chemoattractive depots will be developed. Depots of HMGB1 and adrenomedullin will be applied in hydrogels. Nanocomposites of collagen and strontium-substituted hydroxyapatite will be synthesized and characterized.
