Project M9 (New)

Functionalized hydrogels presenting simultaneously β1-integrin selective ligands and bone morphogenic protein 6 to stimulate osteoblast function and induce myeloma cell apoptosis

In project M9, functionalized hydrogels will be manufactured and investigated regarding their impact on cellular functions of the interaction of myeloma cells, obsteoblasts, and osteoclasts. Functionalizing will be realized via covalent binding of β1-integrin-selective ligands and bone morphogenic protein 6 (BMP-6) simultaneously. The propagandized effect in vivo is twofold: Osteoblast precursor cells will be attracted from the bone marrow via β1-integrin-selective ligands and stimulated through BMP-6 while osteoclastogenesis is inhibited. In parallel, myeloma cells are attracted and apoptosis is induced through BMP-6 for the purpose of a local control of minimal residual disease.
