Project M3

Tri-phasic composites based on collagen, silica and calcium phosphate for bone substitution

Multi-phase composites as well as mesoscopic hybrid composites will be investigated. The former (collagen, silica and calcium phosphate or carbonate) are designated to be a part of scaffolds with tailored degradation properties. Mainly in myelomatous lesions, these scaffolds should release pharmaceutically active compounds. The latter (gelatin, collagen, hydroxy apatite, calcium carbonate, strontium phosphate) will be investigated for their mesocrystal structure. Their polymer-controlled biomimetic synthesis based on non-classical crystallization will be introduced into M3. Composite structures will be adjusted to structures of diseased bone in order to enhance specifically fracture healing.
