How to Apply

Learn more about application requirements, application documents and deadlines here.

1. Check whether the IPPAE profile is matching your personal research interests!

IPPAE is an international PhD program in agricultural and food economics, social schiences and related geosciences. We typically do not admit applicants with degrees or specialisations in agronomy, plant or animal breeding, biotechnology, genetics, animal nutrition or other natural sciences.

Please check our list of potential supervisors and their research profiles:

Feel free to indicate your interest in collaborating with one of them in your motivation letter. You can also indicate a specific research project or theme listed on one of the websites of the supervisors that interest you. Contacting the supervisor directly is possible, but not a requirement for your IPPAE application. If you follow the application steps below, we are ready to find a good match for your research interests indicated in your proposal.

In addition it may be worthwhile to have a look at our current PhD scholars and their topics and backgrounds.

2. Fill and submit the IPPAE Application

Documents required:

  • Motivation letter (1-2 pages) outlining your motivation for becoming part of the IPPAE Program and reflecting on your academic, professional, and personal strengths. IMPORTANT: state the funding organisation or funding program you are applying for scholarship at, as well as the deadline for submitting your application there.
  • Preliminary research proposal or statement of your research ideas.
  • Your CV. We recommend using the Europass format.
