Joint retreat with RTG 2344 in Bad Dürkheim, 2023
In July 2023, our RTG went on a joint retreat with the RTG 2344 "MeInBio" from Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg.
The programme provided plenty of science: Scientific speed dating to break the ice, three keynote lectures by Kai Papenfort from Jena, Domenico Libri from Montpellier and RTG 2355 Mercator Fellow Traude Beilharz from Melbourne, almost two dozen short talks by doctoral candidates from both RTGs and a poster session. Furthermore, Traude Beilharz, who is also a certified mindset and leadership coach, talked about "A life in STEM", advocating for diversity, equity and inclusion in academia, followed by an animated discussion with the doctoral candidates.
On the second day, a walk through the beautiful Bad Dürkheim spa gardens and up and around the nearby Spielberg, a small hill with a chapel on top and covered in vineyards, provided fresh air and a beautiful scenery, and opportunity for more informal interactions. In the evening, mixed teams competed for a chocolatey prize in a pub quiz organized and sponsored by the RTG 2344.
