Dr. Subramaniam was honoured with the CSL Behring - Prof. Heimburger Award 2017.

When did you become a member of the GGL?

I joined the GGL in 2011 and completed my Ph.D. in 2014.

Where do you work and what is your position? Industry or university?

At present, I’m working at the Blood Research Institute, Blood Center of Wisconsin, USA.

What section did you belong during your time at GGL?

I belonged to section 3: Heart, lung and blood vessels.

What part of the GGL was most helpful to achieve your current position?

GGL trained us to develop our soft skills as well as special courses on state-of-the-art techniques and German language. For instance, when I went to the US after working for 4 years in Germany, I was able to speak in German with German-speaking research scientists in my present institute.

Did you enjoy being a member of the GGL and what do you like the most?

GGL organized special training program with DAAD for laboratory rotation to acquire international research exposure. Particularly, conference training programs helped me to develop my presentation skills.

Would you recommend the GGL for young doctoral researchers?

I would strongly recommend young doctoral researchers to join the GGL. It is an excellent graduate centre for life science researchers. After I graduated from the GGL, I worked in several institutes and I have not seen any other graduate schools that have similar well-structured training programs like the GGL.
