Overview

Content

The main language of instruction of this course of study is German. All language subjects are also taught in the respective language; almost all English courses are taught in English.

This is a degree programme in which students can combine subjects from the humanities, social sciences and law.

This degree programme is made up of a combination of various subjects. Students can choose between 12 major subjects and a variety of minor subjects. Thus, diverse subject combinations, as well as an individual course profile arise. The courses’ content is determined by the chosen subject.

Subject-specific prerequisites

Students should be interested in linguistic and cultural topics, as well as in arts and humanities. These include questions concerning community life of human-beings, construction and description of cultural spaces, the practice of arts in the different cultures, as well as the historical development and meaning.

In general, students should be interested in reading, interpreting and debating.

Number of enrolled students

534 students are enrolled in this bachelor degree course (as of winter semester 2017/18).

Composition of degree programme

This BA programme can be composed of two to three subjects.

The possible 2 combinations are

  • a first major subject (80 CP) and a second major subject (70 CP)
  • a first major subject (80 CP), a first minor subject (40 CP) and a second minor subject (30 CP)

The thesis is always written in the student's first major subject. That means that you also get your Bachelor`s degree in the first major subject.

The table below gives an outline of the major and minor subjects which can be taken as part of the Bachlelor's in History and Culture. Please note that some combination regulations apply in the choice of combined subjects. In principle, a subject cannot be combined with itself. Other restrictions are shown in the table.

Major Subjects

The following subjects can be studied as a major subject, some of them can only be chosen as a second major subject. Of course, you can never take the same subject as 1st and 2nd major. Most major subjects can also be studied in combination with other subjects as 1st or 2nd minor subjects.
