VPN
VPN (Virtual Private Network) enables secure remote access to the JLU network, allowing you to use services such as SAP, winfile, and the Baramundi kiosk.
All JLU employees with an HRZ (IT service center) user account are eligible to use VPN. For students, VPN access is provided only upon request. Instructors may request access for their students by contacting support@hrz.uni-giessen.de. To use the VPN, you will need a valid HRZ user ID and a VPN client.
Important: For IT security reasons, VPN access is restricted to official work computers only. Using private devices to access the JLU network (including via VPN) constitutes a significant security risk.
Windows and macOS users utilize the Cisco Secure Client . Windows users can access this software via the Baramundi kiosk, while macOS users can download it from the HRZ website (installation instructions are available here (German only)). For Linux, we recommend using OpenConnect ; installation instructions are also provided by the HRZ.
On computers issued by the HRZ, the Cisco Secure Client is typically pre-installed.
Click 'Connect' . A window will appear asking for your username and password. Enter your HRZ user ID and the corresponding password, then click 'OK' . You are now connected to the VPN.
To end your VPN session, simply click 'Disconnect' .
