Stable Dust

Stallstäube (Foto: Frances Pauelsen)

The collection contains more than 900 barn dust samples from livestock farms; about two thirds are from pig farms; the remaining samples from cattle and poultry farms. Prof. Dr. Jörg Hartung established the collection between 1980 and 2009 at the Foundation of the Hannover University of Veterinary Medicine. After his retirement, the collection was moved to the Institute of Food Chemistry and Food Technology at JLU in 2011 and continued there. The collection has been and continues to be the subject of scientific research, including residue analysis (doi: 10.1289/ehp.6288) and antibiotic resistance research (doi: 10.1038/s41598-019-41528-z).
