Hiermit möchten wir Sie herzlich zur nächsten Veranstaltung unserer Vortragsreihe „Abraham Bar Menachem (ABM) Talks“ einladen. Die AMB-Talks finden im Rahmen des DFG-geförderten Projekts "Seeing Antisemitism Through Law: High Promises orIndeterminacies?“ (Leitung: Prof. Dr. Thilo Marauhn und Dr. Reut Paz) statt.

Since the late 19th century, international lawyers have invested in legal rules to constrain and humanise the conduct of war. Existing historical accounts of this body of rules remain governed, however, by Eurocentric frameworks. In this lecture, Dr Rotem Giladi explores what might the decolonisation of international humanitarian law entail in terms of both types of questions to be asked and registers to be examined. By departing from legal texts and diplomatic records to explore cultural performance and material objects, the lecture points to evidence that colonial violence had played a crucial role in the formation of the law governing the conduct of wars—past and present.
